Kate Fisken

Kate Fisken

Kate Fisken is presently the Treasurer for the Maryland Senior Olympics and has more than 30 years’ experience in accounting, tax and finance with a focus on nonprofit organizations, government contractors and specialized tax issues affecting Americans working overseas.  She is a Principal at Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman, CPA’s (GRF-CPA’s) in the greater Washington, DC area and is a Director of the firm’s Outsourced Accounting and Advisory Services department.  Prior to joining the firm, she was an owner of Fisken & Company, an accounting, tax and management consulting practice which merged with GRF-CPA’s in 2000.

Kate was born in Los Angeles, CA and learned to swim at an early age while living in Seattle, WA.  As an ardent swimmer, she has served on the board of her local US Master Swimming (USMS) team, Ancient Mariners, and has competed at numerous USMS swim meets, open water competitions and at the past five National Senior Games beginning in 2009.  Kate also teaches swimming during the summer at her local public county pools.  She began her volunteer life as a Peace Corps Volunteer in India (1964 – 1966), working in public health and education.  She served on the Montgomery Countywide Recreation Board, Maryland, served as Treasurer of the Institute for Training and Development in Amherst, Mass, and served on the Finance Committee for the Washington Project for the Arts.  She is founding board member of the Friends of India and the Shepherd Park After School Program, of Washington DC; and served on the boards of The McLean School and St Andrews Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland.

Kate received her Bachelor’s Degree from Whittier College and is a Licensed Public Accountant in Washington DC.  She is a member of numerous professional societies including the Maryland Society of Accountants, the Greater Washington Society of CPA’s, and the National Association of Enrolled Agents.  Kate was chosen by Washingtonian magazine as one of its select list of “Expert Public Accountants” in 1994.
