How to Qualify

Road Race features three distinct events, and how you qualify depends on the distance you plan to run.

1-Mile

Open event: This event is completely open. You do not need to place at a State Senior Games or meet any performance standards to register for the National Senior Games.

5K and 10K: To compete in the 5K or 10K at the National Senior Games, you must meet the following criteria at a State Senior Games the year before the National Senior Games:

Complete the course: You only need to cross the finish line and complete the race at a State Games; there is no specific time or placement requirement.
Reciprocal qualifying rule: Completing either the 5K or 10K Road Race automatically qualifies you to run both distances at Nationals.
Limited event qualification: If your state does not offer a 5K or 10K Road Race, you can qualify by submitting proof that you completed a certified 5K or 10K race the year before Nationals.
