Although Falls Prevention Awareness Day is observed annually on the first day of fall, preventing falls is a year round activity. Because falls are not an inevitable part of aging and are preventable, NSGA advocates for ongoing falls prevention among all seniors. Research from the Senior Athlete Fitness Exam (SAFE) found that only 10% of Senior Games athletes report falling within a year. The things that Senior Games athletes are doing to prepare for the Games are keeping them in great shape. Seniors can reduce falls by increasing their leg strength and working on their balance.
