John Tashiro

With more than 30 years of living and working across four continents, John brings a deeply global and diverse perspective to the board. His career has ranged from managing international brands and large-scale projects—including the Olympic Games—to over a decade in nonprofit leadership, where he advanced Fairtrade initiatives and environmental solutions through 1% for the Planet.
Since 2015, John has served as CEO/General Manager of City Market, Onion River Co-op in Vermont, where he focuses on strengthening local food systems, supporting regional producers, and addressing food insecurity. Known for his curiosity, optimism and community-centered leadership, he is excited to help expand the reach and impact of the NSGA.
John earned his BA in International Business and Economics from Sophia University (Tokyo), in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania. A formerly ranked tennis player, he still enjoys ‘chasing around the fuzzy yellow ball’, along with any moments spent outdoors with his family – especially when chipmunks, hummingbirds or frogs make an appearance!
