Mile for the Ages

Mile for the Ages is a NEW special event at the National Senior Games bringing generations together through movement! This one-mile run/walk is open to National Senior Games athletes, their families and friends, and Des Moines community members.

This is an exciting opportunity for Iowans to celebrate the National Senior Games coming to your state and cheer on the thousands of athletes ages 50-100+ competing in The Games.

All participants will receive a t-shirt for the inaugural Mile for the Ages. Join us to embrace community, connection and health.

Date: Friday, July 25, 2025

Location: Iowa State Capitol Grounds, 1007 E Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50319.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Packet Pick-Up & Check-In: TBA

Divisions:

  1. All Ages and Abilities Community Division: This division is open to anyone, age 0-100+.*
  2. National Senior Games Division: This division is for athletes who are age 50+ (by December 31, 2024) and wish to compete in their respective five-year age bracket as part of the 2025 National Senior Games presented by Humana. National Senior Games ribbons and medals will be awarded for each male/female age division.

*Participants under age 18 must be registered and accompanied by an adult. There is no fee for children under 10 years old, but they must be registered on-site.

  • Early registration deadline: Wednesday, April 16, 2025 ($5 discount)
  • Final date to guarantee t-shirt size: Thursday, May 15, 2025
  • Final online registration deadline: Tuesday, July 1, 2024
  • Race-day registration: Accepted until 30 minutes before start time

  • Early registration (ages 10+): $35*
  • Final registration (ages 10+): $40*
  • Under age 10: Free. Please register on-site and not online.

*Includes $7 processing fee.
