Track & Field

To compete at the National Senior Games, you must achieve one of the following at a State Senior Games the year before the National Senior Games:

  • Place in the top four in your specific event and age group. You are eligible to enter as many events as you qualify for.
  • Hit the minimum performance standard (MPS) for your event and age group, regardless of your final placement.
  • Limited event qualification: If your state does not offer pole vault, you can qualify by submitting proof that you met the pole vault standard at a sanctioned competition the year before Nationals.

Track Events:

50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 Meter, 4 x 100 Relay

Field Events:

Discus, High Jump, Javelin, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Triple Jump

Shoes must comply with USATF Rule 143, 3(a) – (f).

 

The National Governing Body shall provide certified implements for all events and age groups. In addition, athletes shall be permitted to use their own implements, provided they have been certified by the Track & Field Committee. Athletes who wish to use their own implements shall agree to all certification procedures including but not limited to marking, impounding, etc. Athletes must provide their own vaulting poles.

Venue Spotlight

Cyclone Sports Complex

Cyclone Sports Complex, located in Ames, Iowa, will host all Track and Field events for the 2025 National Senior Games. The $13 million facility is home to Iowa State University track and field, soccer and softball teams. The complex is located approximately 35 minutes north of downtown Des Moines and offers numerous new amenities.

On-site restrooms, concessions, athlete and official locker rooms, athletic training room, press box, spectator seating and free and ample parking, are among the new features that make it a state-of-the-art facility. The complex also consists of a BSS 2000 Hobart texture track surface, four long jump/triple jump runways, two pole vault and two high jump areas, and 3.5 acres of throws space, which includes six shot rings, one hammer and one discus ring, and a textured javelin runway.
