BATON ROUGE, LA – Following another successful event, the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) announced today a new partnership with Rockbridge Sports Group to manage the multimedia rights of the NSGA and its flagship competition the National Senior Games.
In July, the 2015 National Senior Games presented by Humana was held in Bloomington/Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, featuring nearly 10,000 50-and-over athletes representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Across 19 medal sports competitions and two demonstration sports, athletes from Minnesota “defended their home turf” and received the most medals, followed by those from California and Florida, respectively.
Highlighting the span of ages and growth of competitive athletics in later stages of life, more than 60% of the registered athletes in the 2015 Games were age 69 or younger, but also included four individuals competing in the 100+ age group. More than 30 states sent over 100 registered athletes, reflecting the popularity of the National Senior Games in all regions of the country. The top 10 competitions in terms of number of participants by sport were Softball, Basketball, Track & Field, Volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, Cycling, Golf, Road Racing and Archery, representing a balance of individual and team competitions.
“The National Senior Games Association is excited to partner with Rockbridge Sports Group to build NSGA’s portfolio of partners and sponsors,” said Marc T. Riker, CEO of the NSGA. “NSGA looks forward to benefiting from Rockbridge’s experience, expertise, success, and approach to maximizing value from complex sponsorship and media assets. Together we can enhance and build the brand, and expand the NSGA’s mission that promotes health and wellness for adults 50 and over through education, fitness, and sports.”
The long-term agreement will provide NSGA with a customized multimedia rights platform that will further extend the NSGA brand on a national level, integrating two cycles of the biennial Senior Games competitions with year-round marketing and promotional assets. Coming off the success of the 2015 Senior Games, NSGA is well-positioned to expand its strong roster of corporate partners, official suppliers, media platform advertisers and other supporting entities.
“The NSGA is a perfect fit for the Rockbridge multimedia rights management model, with strategies built specifically to leverage the growth of the National Senior Games and the impeccable track record of the organization,” said David Johnston, co-founder and principal of Rockbridge Sports Group. “The demographic of the competitors, and those who follow the competitions, hold tremendous value. We look forward to our partnership with NSGA to grow awareness and affinity for the Senior Games, creating a robust platform spanning traditional, digital, and on-site multimedia engagement opportunities.”
“NSGA joins an expanding roster of partnerships that today spans national and international athletic competitions as well as collegiate and state-level high school athletic associations,” continued Johnston.
