Growing Bolder at the 2023 Games - July 17

Marc Middleton gives another update on the big stories from the 2023 National Senior Games presented by Humana following Jack Eckenrode, Paula Franetti and the DC Water Wizards.

Roy Englert - For All Time

People are congratulating Roy Englert for reaching the age of 100, but athletes are more in awe that he has had the stamina and good fortune to be one of only two athletes who have competed in every National Senior Games since they began in 1987. Pitt Media reporters Andrew Black and Zachary Grabowski profile a man still on the move.

George Freeman: For All Time

George Freeman never met a sport he didn't like, and he’s played in well over a dozen of the ones offered in his State Games and National Senior Games history - and what a history it is! The former teacher and coach is one of only two athletes who have competed in every National Senior Games since they began in 1987. Pitt Media reporters Andrew Black and Zachary Grabowski enjoyed visiting with George.

Simeon Gipson: What a Ride!

Simeon Gipson drew a lot of attention for riding his bike 1,000 miles from the Cherokee Nation to Pittsburgh in June to share a message about getting healthy and fit. Pitt intern reporters David Altman and Isaiah Stewert went to the 40K Cycling race to ask him and his son about the journey and take in wisdom from this inspiring man.

Table Tennis: Having Serious Fun with a Hall of Famer

Jim McQueen is having serious fun. He is a well-known longtime table tennis player who is a member of the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame and a tough competitor, but he’s always looking for ways to make the game fun. Pitt media interns Isaiah Stewert and David Altman report.
