Mark Schmitz – Treasurer
Mark Schmitz is an avid recreational runner who competes in local, national, and international 5K, half marathons, and marathons. In 2014 he added biking to his regimen and started competing in local duathlons. He has now added swimming with the goal to compete in his first triathlon in the summer of 2016. He has a son and a daughter and thus finds himself involved with a myriad of their sports activities.
Mark grew up in Topeka, KS and received his Business degree from Washburn University in 1993. His career has concentrated in finance, accounting, and analytics. He has a diverse background working for small companies, Fortune 500 companies, healthcare, and non-profits. In 2007 he decided to work for himself and he joined a small startup company, Universal Guardian Acceptance, which provides billing, accounting and cash flow planning for their 250 clients. The past several years, his company has participated in Kansas City Corporate Challenge. With over 35 different events, Mark uses this 2 month period to compete in new activities and to encourage his 65 employees to compete as well. Mark believes that an active lifestyle is the key to long-term health and happiness and strives to encourage people from young children, to adult friends and family, to seniors to find at least one activity they enjoy and make it a lifelong hobby. This passion for a fit lifestyle is what brought him to the National Senior Games. He was honored to be voted onto the Board of Directors in January of 2016.
