Don Lawrence
Don Lawrence – Power Walk & Race Walk
Race Walking became the event of Don Lawrence’s choice in his senior year of high school, when he was a NY State Meet finalist which awarded him a scholarship to University of Wisconsin at Parkside.
He lived and trained at the USA Olympic Training Center in Colorado to prepare for the USA Olympic Trials in ’84, ’88, ’92. He was a member of the USA National Race Walk Team, competing at Pan Am Cup and World Walking Championships.
Don partnered with Nike, Inc to promote Walking for Fitness and Health, conducting clinics nationwide, directing the USATF National Race Walk Championships for 10 years, and serving as USATF Coach for the USA vs Canada JR Race Walk Match.
He is an elected leader with USATF as President of Niagara Association, Vice Chair of the USATF Associations Executive Committee, at-large for the USATF Race Walk Committee and a USA Race Walk Foundation Board Member.
His day job is as a Medical Group Concierge, attending to WNY Urology Staff automobile service needs. He says with a smile, “I’m a luxury car jockey!” Don also conducts weekly Power Walk/Race Walk clinics and workouts at Runners Roost in WNY – E. Amherst, NY.
Don lives with his fiancé Karla in their childhood hometown of Lockport, NY, the result of a 40-year high school reunion…that’s right – kind of a Hallmark script, when you know you know!
Don appreciates the gratifying opportunity to give back by sharing the benefits of walking with the senior fitness community.
