A year-long series of community programs in celebration of the 2013 National Senior Games. Celebrate head to  toe wellness for older adults by participating in one or more these community programs!

A program of National Institute of Aging and National Institutes of Health, Go4Life®  is science-based exercise program that includes a written guide in English and Spanish, an exercise video, an interactive website, and more.Go4Life® offers specific exercises, motivational tips, success stories, and free materials to help older adults (50+) get ready, start exercising, and keep going.  For more information about Go4Life®, visit http://go4life.niapublications.org/.  

As part of the Year of Vitality, FREE one-hour introductory sessions will be offered to introduce participants to the program and answer questions. Over 600 older adults participated in Go4Life® sessions in 2012, and sessions are being scheduled now for 2013.

Learn & Earn Financial Fitness 

In partnership with  

Free financial literacy classes are being held as part of the Year of Vitality with the goal of empowering older adults with financial information that will lead to financial stability and self-sufficiency.

Each class is one hour, is led by a trained financial educator, and includes free program materials.

The City Club of Cleveland Year of Vitality Speaker Series



The City Club of Cleveland will host a series of talks focused on active and healthy aging, preventive medicine, or similar topics featuring nationally-recognized speakers. Exact dates and speakers are to be determined, and confirmed speakers are listed below:

Gray Matters: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, Healthy Aging - 20th Annual Florence Cellar Conference sponsored by Case Western Reserve University


 Hosted by the University Center on Aging and Health at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at CWRU, the 20th Annual Florence Cellar Conference on geriatrics and aging will be held on April 12, 2013 at Landerhaven.

The 20th Florence Cellar Conference explores the relationship between physical activity and mental acuity to achieve vitality in aging. This daylong conference features the latest researchfindings as well as demonstrated successes for healthy aging through keynote addresses and lively panel discussions with prominent researchers and "mythbusting" older adults.

Among our guest speakers is Leonard W. Poon, PhD, University of Georgia Distinguished Research Professor. Dr. Poon is the principal investigator the The Georgia Centenarian Study, a remarkable 20-year research program on the oldest old - individuals who live to age 100 or beyond.

Full-day and half-day session passes are available, and students and retirees are discounted.

Age of Champions Documentary Screening, presented by Playhouse Square and University Hospitals 

A public showing of the documentary, Age of Champions, was held on Wednesday, July 25 for 850 area adults. The screening was preceded by a health fair, and a panel discussion and audience question and answer session took place after the film. Age of Champions is a feature-length documentary celebrating the charm and active spirit of seven athletes and their burning desire for gold at the 2009 Senior Games. Cleveland Senior Walk

Sponsored by the City of Cleveland, City of Cleveland Department of Aging, Cleveland Department of Public Health, Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, MetroHealth, YMCA Clevelanders in Motion, Quicken Loans Arena, and the Enterprise Foundation.

The Cleveland Senior Walk was held on Friday, July 27 at Gateway Plaza in Cleveland. Over 1,000 walkers joined us for this free community walk to encourage health and physical activity for all! All registrants received a free Cleveland Senior Walk t-shirt, healthy snacks, and other tools for healthy living. The Humana Well Being tour was on-site offering free screenings and other health information. Walkers walked loops on the concourse inside Quicken Loans Arena to avoid the rain and humidity.
