Director, National Veterans Golden Age Games



A native of Dallas, Texas Dewayne C. Vaughan began his career at the Dallas VA Medical Center where, he was hired as a Recreation Assistant at the VA Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas.

He worked as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in Big Spring until December of 1984, when he was selected as Supervisor of the Therapeutic Recreation Program at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, TX. While in Bonham, Mr. Vaughan began coaching, organizing and raising funds to send teams to the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, National Veterans Wheelchair Games and National Veterans Golden Age Games. In 1988, he served as one of seven Regional Site Coordinators for the National Veterans Golden Age Games.

In 2001, he became Director, National Veterans Golden Age Games and currently maintains his office in Washington, DC. Under his guidance the NVGAG has become the largest adaptive sporting event for veterans in the world.

Dewayne graduated from Southwest Texas State in May of 1981 with a BS in Recreation Administration.
